What is Hybrid Mode in Inverter?
As an essential part of solar systems, hybrid inverters provide the effective integration and control of energy sources. In addition to converting the DC power generated by solar panels into AC power, these advanced inverters can also deposit excess power into batteries or feed it back into the grid for additional revenue.
Hybrid inverters are remarkably flexible due to their several working modes, which enable them to accommodate a wide range of needs and use circumstances. These modes include:
- Self-Consumption Mode:
The PV prioritizes powering the loads, excess charges the batteries, and then any excess can be sold to the grid (if policy allows). When PV generation is insufficient or at night, the batteries are used to power the loads, and if both are insufficient then the grid supplements them. This model is suitable for areas with high grid electricity prices, where savings are achieved by reducing the amount of electricity used on the grid.
- Time-of-Use Mode
The inverter can automatically adjust battery charging and discharging according to the high and low electricity prices. When the price of electricity is high, use PV+battery at the same time to prioritize the power supply to the load, and sell the rest to the grid (at this time, the battery is in discharged state). When the price of electricity is low, use PV+grid at the same time to give priority to the load, and then charge the battery (at this time, the battery is in charging state). This model is suitable for areas with significant peak and valley tariff differences. Commercial or industrial users can effectively reduce their electricity costs when they use a lot of electricity during the peak daytime hours.
- Off-Grid Mode :
During the day, the PV generates electricity for use by the load and the excess electricity is stored in the battery. At night, the PV does not generate electricity and the electricity from the battery is used by the load. The entire system operates independently, ensuring that users have a stable power supply even in remote areas. Suitable for remote areas or isolated island environments where grid access is not possible.
- Backup Mode (UPS Mode):
In this mode, it will charge the battery with PV and the grid together. The battery will not discharge as long as the grid is available. It ensures that the battery is always fully charged, and in the event of a grid outage or grid instability, it can be automatically switched to battery-powered mode. The switching time of the CHISAGE ESS inverter is less than 5ms, which realizes uninterrupted power supply. This model is suitable for areas where the power supply is unstable and users need backup power protection.
The working mode and characteristics of the inverter may be adjusted by users to suit their own requirements. Ideal for settings like homes and small businesses that need flexible control over energy storage and consumption.
